Robust, Precise, and Wireless: NOVUS Launches Ultrasonic Transmitter TU2000 for Level Measurement up to 20 Meters
The combination of non-contact Time of Flight (ToF) technology and Bluetooth configuration brings process industries an efficient solution to the problem of measuring instrument wear and unplanned downtime.

Maintenance and process control engineers in heavy industry, agriculture, and municipal systems know well how challenging level measurement can be in aggressive or turbulent conditions. Traditional submerged and contact sensors continuously suffer mechanical wear, corrosion, and material buildup, leading to frequent breakdowns, replacements, and unplanned operational interruptions.

In response to these operational challenges, global automation equipment manufacturer NOVUS has officially introduced its new flagship asset in the level measurement segment — the TU2000 ultrasonic transmitter. The device is engineered to deliver high reliability and complete non-contact accuracy at distances up to 20 meters (20,000 mm).

Acoustic Time of Flight: How it Works Without Contacting the Medium

At the heart of the new transmitter lies acoustic Time of Flight (ToF) measurement based on 33 kHz ultrasonic pulses. The sensor emits a sound wave toward the surface of the medium and then precisely measures the time required for the pulse to reflect and return. Based on the propagation speed of the wave, an internal processor calculates distance, level, and volume in real time.

One of the key advantages of this technology is its total immunity to visual and atmospheric conditions inside the tank. Measurement readings remain stable regardless of the presence of smoke, steam, material color changes, or optical surface reflection, providing reliable results even with highly turbulent liquids. In addition, an integrated temperature sensor positioned directly on the surface of the sensing element performs automatic temperature compensation, neutralizing the impact of ambient process temperature fluctuations on measurement accuracy.

Wide Range of Applications: From High-Capacity Silos to Wastewater

Designed with universality in mind, the TU2000 is intended for measurements in both static and moving media, encompassing liquids, grains, and bulk solids.
Its primary application areas include:
  • Silo Capacities: Reliable inventory monitoring of grain and bulk materials in tall silos.
  • Industrial Tanks: Cylindrical, vertical, horizontal, or irregularly shaped geometries. For complex tank shapes, the software allows setting up to 20 linearization points for precise volume conversion.
  • Water Treatment Plants: Continuous measurement in municipal and industrial wastewater basins.
  • Hydrological and Environmental Monitoring: Outdoor level monitoring of rivers, lakes, and overflow dams.
For smaller tanks (length or height up to 10 meters), the device offers the ability to reduce the standard blind zone from 500 mm to approximately 250 mm, while automatically increasing the sampling rate from 1 Hz to 2 Hz.

Digitalization in the Field: Safe Configuration via the SigNow Ecosystem

Beyond measurement performance, NOVUS has paid significant attention to operator safety and convenience. Transmitter configuration is performed entirely wirelessly via Bluetooth (BLE 4.0+) using the SigNow mobile or PC application.

This enables engineers to perform complete commissioning, parameter changes, or firmware updates without opening the housing, connecting cables, or climbing to dangerous heights on top of silos. The application features an interactive guided setup wizard as well as a diagnostic Echo Graph that visually displays the ultrasonic signal in real time, helping to quickly detect and eliminate potential false reflections inside the tank.

Robust Construction and Standardized Industrial Outputs

Mechanically, the TU2000 is built to withstand harsh industrial microclimates. It is housed in durable UL94 polycarbonate with an IP67 protection rating and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to 80 °C and process pressures up to 2 bar. Mounting is carried out via a Ø32 mm threaded flange with a hexagonal acoustic horn.
The electrical interface includes:
  • Power Supply: Wide range from 8 to 33 Vdc with reverse polarity protection.
  • Standard Analog Output: 4–20 mA compliant with NAMUR NE43 specifications (with an output resolution of 0.01 mA).
  • Digital Output: Configurable PNP or NPN alarm output up to 200 mA, allowing direct triggering of relays, sounders, or inputs to PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Visual Diagnostics: On-device diagnostics via 4 LEDs (Status, Analog Output, Digital Output, Bluetooth) compliant with NAMUR NE107 recommendations.
Availability and Warranty

The NOVUS TU2000 comes with a 3-year factory warranty, further confirming the quality and durability of this measurement equipment. The product is officially available on our market through the authorized distributor, Electro Pneumatic Solutions.
